Superhero alter egos revealed on Uniform to Work Day

Uniform to work dayOn Wednesday 22 June the alter egos of men and women across the country were revealed as they donned their Armed Forces uniforms for work to show their pride in being in the Reserve forces. This included one of Whittington Health’s Emergency Department Sisters, Laura Hodson, who arrived at work in her RAF Reserves uniform.

Uniform to Work Day was organised as part of the build up to Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June, which celebrates all of those who make up the Armed Forces Family. It also provides an opportunity to celebrate the role of the Reserves and to show the public the Armed Forces are made up of people from all sections of the community.

Reservists provide valuable support to the Regular Armed Forces and are deployed on operations, including Operation Herrick (Afghanistan) and Operation Ellamy (Libya).

Laura has been an Emergency Department nurse since 2003, working for Whittington Health since October 2009, and a member of the Reserves since April 2004. Laura has been deployed twice as a nursing officer and flight commander, both times to Afghanistan.

Flt Lt Laura Hodson says: “I have enjoyed both of my operational tours. I got such a sense of satisfaction doing a job I loved in a new and challenging environment. The basics of both my jobs are the same in terms of prioritisation, treatment and patient care. The biggest difference is that there was a lot more major trauma when I was serving in Afghanistan. Having coped with what I saw out there has made me much more confident in my day job at Whittington Health.”
