Landscaping underway

News and media - Landscaping updateYou may have noticed that there are changes taking place on the Magdala Avenue embankment.

Something had to be done about the unruly jumble of shrubs and grasses that had taken over the area; and now that FES is installed as the new management team for the PFI building; the landscapers, Smith Arison, have been able to get on site.

The new landscape is taking shape bit by bit. Over the summer the site has been dug over and war has been waged on the perennial weeds.

September saw the start of planting perennials and bulbs, a couple of gates have appeared; and in November a pattern will start to emerge as hedges are planted to define the fields.

People walking along Magdala Avenue will find themselves looking into an English rural landscape which, by next spring, will be ready to burst into life.

Andrew Smith of the Smith Arison Partnership may be familiar to you having worked in several different clerical capacities in the hospital over the last few years; and he and Laura Arison have for a while been improving the look of the N19 Restaurant Courtyard.

But it is the redesign of the embankment, adjacent to the hospital entrance, that is likely to make the greatest impact. As Laura says ‘We’ve got into the habit of calling it Whittington Fields.

We hope it’s going to become a cherished feature of the neighbourhood for years to come. We’d like to think it will be known as Whittington Fields for ever.’
