Content
Whittington Health is delighted to announce that Dr Eileen Vizard, was made a Commander of the British Empire, CBE, in the New Year Honours 2012.

Dr Vizard is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist employed by Whittington Health, and a Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at University College London, who has led pioneering work for over 20 years with young people who engage in sexually harmful behaviour towards others.

In addition, she leads the National Child Assessment and Treatment Service (NCATS), a service hosted by the NSPCC in Camden Town. NCATS is a UK wide outpatient service for children and young people up to age 21 years old. Within this area of work there are immensely complex issues involved including child protection and forensic concerns.

Dr Vizard has the key role in psychiatric and risk assessment of the young people referred to her which forms the basis of complex medico-legal reports and expert witness work. In addition to heavy clinical commitments, Dr Vizard is busy with supervision, extensive training and research as well as being engaged with influencing policy on a range of child forensic issues.

The Government, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and many other national and international bodies all draw on her knowledge of forensic child mental health, especially in sexually abusive behaviour in children. She is a member of a Home Office stakeholder group on sexual violence.

Dr Vizard has published many academic papers on sexually abusive behaviour in children and is a frequent speaker across the world for her insights in a very challenging area. Dr Vizard was awarded her MD in September 2011 and she is a member of the British Psychoanalytical Society.

I am sure everyone associated with Whittington Health would like to join us in congratulating Dr Vizard on this much deserved recognition.
