Fundraising

The Whittington Hospital Charitable Funds is dedicated to raising money for patients, services and staff at Whittington Health. As a registered charity we manage and distribute funds to offer a better patient experience and to improve Whittington Health's environment for service users, patients and staff.

The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust and the community health services in Islington and Haringey merged in 2011. These are award winning organisations delivering acute and community based health services to a population of 443,000 people. The new organisation is the biggest employer in the area, with over 4,120 staff and delivers healthcare not only on the acute hospital site, but also from a variety of other channels and through visits to patients’ homes.

We also have major appeals for priority projects such as a new Thalassaemia unit; a cancer patient information project, new equipment for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and most recently we fundraised for the care of older people. Donations from service users, patients and families are always welcomed.

The Charitable Funds committee is chaired by Whittington Health's vice-chairman, Robert Aitken and includes staff, trust governors and grateful patients. The committee oversee expenditure in addition to planning how to raise income through various events and fundraising initiatives. All donations, whether to a ward, community service or to a specific appeal are carefully recorded, thanked and allocated to the fund.

Why support the Whittington Hospital Charitable Funds?

Although the Whittington receives funding from the exchequer to provide healthcare for the local population, sadly there is often a shortfall. There are community projects and vital equipment which is desperately needed, but outside the limit of the NHS budgets. To keep pace with modern advances in technology and to provide improved services, there is very much a need to go that extra mile which is often met by fundraising donations.  Our aim is to continue to provide services to a high standard, but to achieve our goals we need to raise valuable and much–needed funds.
