The Whittington at The Tate Modern If you walk past the Tate Modern these days you will notice a lot of 100 meter hoarding around the site as its new development takes place. On the hoarding boards around are sketches by Swedish artist Martin Karlsson. One of these wonderful images is of The Whittington hospital. This is part of Martin’s series entitled ‘London – An Imagery 2008-09’, which are based on Gustave Dore’s engravings of London, originally published in 1872.
Martin’s work explores how London is changing, how some things are developing whilst other landmarks remain the same. Similarly he reflects on how people and practices are changing across business, commerce and industry. The Whittington is extremely grateful to Martin and The Tate Modern for displaying such a great picture of the hospital within such a prestigious institution.
