A child's adventure in A&E

A child's adventure in A&E - Introduction
On the afternoon of Friday 20 May Whittington Health hosted the launch of the book ‘A child’s adventure in A&E’. The book is a community based collaboration between the Whittington Hospital emergency department and Grafton Primary School, led by Dr Heidi Edmundson, a consultant in the emergency department at the Whittington Hospital. It has been written for children by children and covers a number of short stories about various experiences in the emergency department to help put at ease the minds of all children who come in as their first experience in a hospital environment.

The launch event was held in the atrium on level 4 and included a welcome and introduction by Dr Heidi Edmundson, and a description from the writer in residence at the school Diane Samuels about the journey taken by the children in visiting the emergency department, discussions with emergency staff and how they created the various stories and artwork. The children of Grafton Primary then read the book to those in attendance - demonstrating the knowledge base they have now formed and their own personal journey of understanding how an emergency department works.

'A child’s adventure in A&E' is now on sale for £4.99 from the Whittington's online shop.
