Whittington Health Class 'Oustanding' Ofsted report

Whittington Heath Class is 'Outstanding'The Whittington Hospital class had their Ofsted inspection on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 October and once again the service was awarded “Outstanding.”

The Inspector wrote 'Whittington Hospital Class provides an outstanding level of education. This is a direct result of the inspirational leadership of the headteacher and the sheer dedication of the whole staff, who are committed to changing and improving the fortunes of young people, many of whom have faced severe difficulties and traumas in their lives. It is a most caring and sensitive service that offers its students the highest possible levels of education, care, guidance and support. As a result, almost all students achieve extremely well and make outstanding progress in their learning and personal development.'

Rosemarie Hilditch, Head of Centre said she was delighted with the inspection outcome. She explained that last year the service celebrated 60 years of education at The Whittington and produced a book called 'Whittington’s Treasure' a celebration of children’s education at the Whittington Hospital between 1950 – 2010. The book can be purchased for £5 (donation) from the Whittington online shop.

The service is based in the classroom on Ifor Ward and teaches all school age children on the ward.

The hospital class teachers also teach pupils who live in Islington who are unable to attend school for medical reasons.
