Sing for Your Lungs choir to perform at hospital
The Whittington Health choir for people living with long-term respiratory conditions will perform at the hospital on Thursday 8 October.
The Sing for Your Lungs choir will perform pop songs from different eras, along with world songs and singing in rounds.
The use of singing as a technique for managing long-term respiratory conditions – such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, emphysema, fibrosis and chronic bronchitis – has increased over the past 15 years and is a growing field of scientific research.
Dr Myra Stern, consultant physician, founded the choir two years ago with music therapist Phoene Cave. The choir now has 25 members and has performed at the Royal College of Music and the British Lung Foundation carol concert. It offers free weekly singing sessions with a vocal coach for people with a long-term respiratory condition living in Islington and Haringey.
