London Marathon 2005

All five competitors, who took up the Whittington’s ‘golden bond’ places, managed to finish the gruelling 26-mile course – the fastest of whom ran it for the first time in a staggering three hours forty-five minutes. The times are as follows:
London Marathon 2

Daniel Morgan                               3 hrs 45:50

Mark Farrell                                  3 hrs 46:43

Mike Conway                                3 hrs 46:43

Lorraine Turner                              5 hrs 25:45

Nuala Edwards                              6 hrs 55:27

As well as raising money through sponsorship, a raffle was held with tickets being sold through the runners and through the hospital itself. The draw, carried out by Whittington Chair Narendra Makanji, took place on Monday 18 April with the first prize of a TV-DVD combi going to Anthony Cunane; second prize of a £50 voucher for a meal at Ristorante San Carlo in Highgate Village was won by Hannah Kyne, with third prize - an alarm clock radio with CD player - going to Jean Lazarus of Archway.

Matron of Care of Older People, Deborah Clatworthy said “I am delighted that older people’s services has been chosen to receive the proceeds from the marathon run this year. Up until recent years it has been pretty much the forgotten service.

As the population gets older and we live longer, older people will play a major part in our lives, and indeed our work. Without them we would not be the society we are today, and similarly they will form our future (we are the older people of tomorrow).”
