Discharge summaries go electronic

Recently, during feedback meetings, GPs have highlighted the need for improvements to be made to the way we send out our discharge summaries.

 

Following discussion by the hospital management board is was agreed that the best way of improving the quality of our summaries was to extend the use across the hospital of the existing patient tracking system which can automatically generate electronic discharge summaries.  

 

This new way of working will ensure our systems are improving, it will be easier to track records, record information and run reports for areas where this is not being carried out.  It is important that we help local GPs with clearer information to help them to manage their patients since this will help to improve overall patient care and satisfaction.  In addition improved links and communication will play an important role as we wish to become the hospital of choice for local people.
