Whittington achievement awards

Jasmin Archibald, Rob Pinate and Joy Robb with Jeremy Corbyn

The fifth annual Whittington Achievement Awards were held  on Monday 5 February to acknowledge and reward staff who have made an exceptional contribution to the running of the hospital. The awards were again presented to staff by local MP Jeremy Corbyn.

The awards are special, not only because they acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the different jobs and specialities of the staff who work in the hospital, but also because the nominations are made for staff by other staff. This year we received an unprecedented number of nominations.

There are three categories for nominations

Improving the quality of care or services to patients - winner Joy Robb, sister on the critical care unit.

Improving the Trust's efficiency - winner, Jo Bronte, human resources manager.

Dedication to services to patients - winner, Jasmin Archibald, ward   manager, neonatal intensive care unit.

There is also an overall winner, who this year was Robert Pinate, clinical facilitator in the emergency department. Robert was nominated in all three categories.

Described as an 'all round good chap', Robert was nominated in all three categories for his work to identify needs in training and education for staff within the emergency department. He has identified areas of need within the department, notably with regard to paediatric emergency care and, working with specialist staff from other departments, has put in place programmes to ensure that all staff are trained to cope with areas of care hitherto unfamiliar to them. Rob is enthusiastic and committed to his job and his work has significantly enhanced morale in the department, improving recruitment and retention of staff. There has also been a reduction in sickness absence. One of the many nominations he received, stated, "Rob has worked tirelessly for the Trust.the changes have been visible and demonstrated that leadership by example can achieve dramatic results".

The winners of the group award were the Facilities management team for their work to open our new building.
