Annual Mayors' walk

Annual Mayor's walk

On Sunday 11 March the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman Right Honourable John Stuttard, with mayors of various London Boroughs retraced the steps of Dick Whittington from Highgate Hill to the City of London. The group included Islington Mayor Jyoti Vaja, and Haringey Mayor Gina Adamou, who has spent her term fundraising for the Whittington’s Building for Babies appeal.

The Whittington Hospital provided a breakfast to the assembled ‘chain gang’ before they headed off on their five mile walk in to the City of London. All the Mayor’s commented on how much of an improvement the new Whittington building made to the start of the event.

At the halfway point - at a strategically placed pub on Upper Street, Islington – they were joined by the Green Heckle Pipers who marched ahead of the procession all the way into the City where the Lord Mayor presented certificates to all the participating mayors.  In this way, two London institutions, the City and the hospital both honoured their most celebrated ancestor
