Whittington's Black and Ethnic Leadership Programme

BEL ProgrammeWhittington chief executive David Sloman and Dee Henry non executive director presented certificates to participants of the Whittington's Black and Ethnic Leadership Programme on Tuesday 27 March. Five staff from the Whittington, and four staff from Southwark PCT successfully completed the programme, which is designed to develop black and minority ethnic staff, and to help them into senior management positions and NHS leadership.

The programme consisted of both personal and professional activities including the use of the online 'Strengthfinder' questionnaire and one to one coaching, as well as learning modules on a range of leadership topics.

Cathy Abrey, learning and development manager, who designed and developed the programme, said "I think the programme really benefited from having staff who come from different parts of the NHS. It gave participants the opportunity to look at viewpoints from primary care, acute trust, clinician and non- clinician perspectives."

Cathy and Pamela Franklin of The Portable Group Limited, whose company delivered the Personal Development part of the programme, are starting to plan the next programme, which will commence in January 2008. The possibility of getting the programme accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management is being explored.
