Wards and departments dress up for Christmas
Wards and clinics were able to show off their festive areas to a panel of judges, including new chair Joe Liddane, on Friday 14 December. Alongside Joe, judges Philip Ient, director of facilities, Caroline Denford, site commissioning assistant, Helena Kania from the Patient and Public Involvement Forum and Steven Radford from the Friends, toured the four wards and six outpatient departments who put themselves forward to be judged. Innovative décor spread from the traditional to the contemporary, incorporating themes of peace, recycling, Christmas grottos and a Winter Wonderland motif that ran through the paediatric areas.Occupational Therapy received the best dressed department title for their creative and festive interpretation of a Christmas foundation trust express train, greeted by conductors David Sloman and Joe Liddane… Decorative notice boards of winter scenes showcased some of the Whittington’s younger patient’s extensive talents and won the title of best dressed ward for Ifor. In an amusing play on the Turner prize winning bear costume, Rosemarie Hilditch, teacher in charge, greeted children and judges dressed as a snowman, with carrot nose and hat to match. Similarly all were impressed by Mercers ward’s delicate and well thought out decorations and by the homemade snow globes put together by the Women’s Health Secretariat.
The judges would like to congratulate all departments and wards that have made time to piece together fun, colourful and thoughtful decorations to help celebrate the Christmas season at the Whittington. Merry Christmas.
