Consultant Hasan Mukhtar becomes a registered expert
An initiative has been developed for consultants to receive hands on training for laparoscopic colorectal surgery led by specialists in the field. The surgery is minimally invasive and may be recommended as an alternative to open surgery for people with colon cancer. Expert consultants, who are known as preceptors, are selected from surgeons who must have performed a high number of laparoscopic colorectal procedures to be given this privileged role.
Whittington surgeon Hasan Mukhtar is now a preceptor for laparoscopic colorectal surgery, and is the first to achieve such a teaching role in the North Central London area. Whilst there are many courses in this area of surgery there are very few consultants who are in a position to teach in this practical method. Days and venues for Mr Mukhtar’s surgery, as well as theatre lists of other preceptors, are published on the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons website.
