Celebrating Nurses Day

Celebrating Nurses DayMonday 12 May was International Nurses Day marking the birthday of Florence Nightingale. Each year, on this day, members of the Whittington Hospital's trust board shadow a nursing member of staff to get a feel for the different areas of a nurses working life. The nurses who participated this year were Tina Jegede, matron for medicine; Deborah Wheeler, director of nursing; Breege Gilbride, critical care matron; Kara Blackwell, lead cancer nurse; Jenny Johnson, matron for theatres; Jane Preece, tissue viability nurse; Abie Lateef, clinical nutrition nurse; and Lorraine Tinker, matron for paediatrics.
Celebrating Nurses DayShadowing them respectively were non executive director, Robert Aitken; Margaret Boltwood, director of human resources; Maria Duggan, non-executive director; Kate Slemeck, director of operations; Phil Ient, director of facilities; Susan Sorensen, director of strategy and performance; Richard Martin, director of finance; and non-executive director, Anna Merrick.
Celebrating Nurses DayAfter a morning watching Jane Preece bandaging patients Susan Sorensen said: “Every year it really does give you that further insight into what goes on in this hospital. The nurses who do this everyday do such an excellent job and really are wonderful people.”

All nurses celebrated the day with a cake being delivered to every ward wishing them 'Happy Nurses Day'.
