Awarding our staff
The sixth annual Whittington Achievement Awards were held on Wednesday 1 October to acknowledge staff who have made an outstanding contribution to the hospital. Nominations are made by staff for staff and this year we saw a large number of nominations recognising the hard and successful work of those who work here.
This year the awards were split into five categories. Winning an award for ‘Improving the quality of experience for patients’ was Margaret Boyle, health care assistant on Ifor ward, who was celebrated on the night for always going the extra mile with patients and their families. ‘Involving patients in measuring clinical outcomes to further improve’ saw complaints manager Tracy Beedell who has worked to ensure that all complaints are responded to within time. Jasmin Archibald, lead nurse in NICU, was the winner for having ‘Developed clinical services that further improve the hospital’ who has worked extremely hard this year to organise and complete the refurbishment of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. ‘Improving the Trust’s Efficiency’ saw two winners; Antoinette Webber, service manager for Voluntary Services, who has instigated a number of projects including establishing the new hospital guides service; and Maggie McNair, sister on NICU, whose unstinting efforts has supported a large number of parents to care for preterm babies at home. A team award was also given to the Diabetes and Endocrinology office team who, amongst all their hard work, have taken on a project that led to a significant reduction in patient non-attendance at diabetes clinic appointments.
There is also an overall winner who this year was the very deserved John McConnell (pictured right, with Jeremy Corbyn MP), front of house porter. John, or JJ as he known, is the first point of contact for many of our patients, and he consistently offers a warm and friendly welcome, seeking out patients who need assistance and providing an excellent service.
Congratulations to all winners and nominees and an extra large well done to JJ for the fantastic work for our hospital.
