Best dressed Whittington

Friend of the Whittington Vivien Trigger presents the Betty Mansell Ward with their plaque. The Whittington’s annual festive competition to find the department and ward with the best Christmas decorations took place on Friday 19 December. Judges for this years competition were Chair Joe Liddane, Friend of the Whittington Vivien Trigger, Governors Patricia Harrington and Ron Jacobs, and deputy matron for NICU Ade Oremule.

As with every year the judges were faced with lively and colourful departments, innovative themes, creative hard work and enthusiastic staff. The final scores were close but saw Betty Mansell ward and Social Work win the titles of Best Dressed Ward and Department respectively.

Congratulations go to Betty Mansell Ward, whose beautifully handcrafted designs illustrating the Twelve Days of Christmas won them first place. In second place for the best dressed ward were Ifor, who got their kids on board to help them design their Christmas Around the World theme. And third place went to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit who depicted a grotto of staff elves and reindeer.
Led by fleurtist Victoria Webb, Social Work perform their festive song for the judgesEqually congratulations go to Social Work for nabbing first prize as the best dressed department, with a topical but fun credit crunch theme and homemade Christmas carol which was performed to the judges. Second place went to the Physiotherapy outpatients department who created wonderfully atmospheric scenes from Narnia behind their very own ‘cupboard’ doors. And third place was received this year by the Women’s Health Secretariat team, who had a great eye for detail and even managed to raise £40 for the Trust with their festive box of sweets which required a small donation.

Thank you also to Mercers Ward, IM&T, Finance, Clinic 3D, Reckitt Ward, Maternity Day Unit and Payroll for all their wonderful efforts. It always makes such a difference to patients and staff alike. We look forward to next years creations!
