Whittington withdraws its application to become a Foundation Trust
At its meeting on 18 March the Whittington's Trust Board decided to withdraw its current foundation trust application. This decision is due to a significant increase in the level of financial risk and uncertainty in the local healthcare system and the economy as a whole.more

The Annual Health Check is a system of assessment for all NHS Trusts. The review is undertaken by the Healthcare Commission, which is responsible for carrying out independent assessments of the performance of every local NHS organisation.more
Whittington Hospital welcomes mayors of London
Edward Lord deputy chairman of the Whittington Hospital welcomed the Lord Mayor of the City of London and 31 mayors of London to breakfast at the Whittington Hospital on Sunday 19 April at the start of one of London's most colourful traditions - the walk from Highgate Hill to the City following the steps of Dick Whittington.more

The Whittington Hospital is the second safest in the country
The Whittington Hospital is the second best trust in the country for low mortality rates. The information, published on the NHS Choices website, is taken from the Hospital Standardised Mortality Ratio (HSMR), which is a statistical calculation that measures the overall rate of deaths within an NHS Trust, then comparing it with a national benchmark.more
International Day of the Midwife at the Whittington
On Tuesday 5 May, the Whittington Hospital celebrated International Day of the Midwife. The day was marked by remembering women around the world who had died in giving birth.more

Full time smoking cessation at the Whittington
The Whittington hospital now has a full time smoking cessation specialist working from our respiratory department and is the first hospital in London to employ a designated stop-smoking advisor. more
Making an exhibition of itself at 60!
To mark the 60th anniversary of the Whittington Hospital Class, the current pupils, together with history students from Mount Carmel Technology College for Girls are creating an exhibition spanning the last 60 years.more

New Electronic Survey Devices at the Whittington
From Monday 1 June and throughout the summer, electronic survey devices will be available in various departments of the Whittington Hospital.more
Birth centre opens
The Whittington is proud to announce the arrival of its new Birth Centre. In addition to the eight birth rooms in the labour ward the birth centre offers five further rooms, each with an ensuite bathroom and a double bed for women and their partners so they can cherish the arrival of their newborn together. more
Nurse recruitment day
On Monday 8 June, over 90 nurses and student nurses interested in joining the Whittington’s nursing staff attended a recruitment day at the hospital.more
All the ones...Legs 11!
The Whittington's bingo night on Thursday 18 June was a terrific success. Over 60 people came along to the Charlotte Despard pub in Despard Road for a delicious Mexican supper followed by 10 hilarious games of bingo!more
Whittington doctors run 130 kilometres in 24 hours
On Sunday 21 June 2009, three Whittington consultants, Mr Ron Miller, Mr Hasan Mukhtar and Dr Hugh Montgomery completed the Safehands Walk for Life running 130 kilometres in 24 hours! more
Artwork in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
On 23 June the neonatal intensive care unit put up some specially commissioned original artwork by healthcare artist, Rebecca Cresswell from Wolverhampton in the West Midlands.more
Whittington Governor Stars in Company of Elders
On Tuesday 23 June, BBC1 aired a documentary on Sadler's Wells 'Company of Elders' of which Eve Dewhurst, a Governor of the Whittington, is a member. The Company of Elders is a dance company with 25 performers between the ages of 61-85.more
