Whittington hospital healthiest it's ever been

The Whittington Hospital has achieved its highest rating so far under the Care Quality Commission’s annual health check scheme. Results for the year 2008/2009 place the Whittington’s financial management as ‘excellent’ and service quality as ‘good’, the results are published today Thursday 15 October.

The assessment spans two broad criteria, with the Whittington achieving an ‘excellent’ certification mark in their quality of financial management, with the hospital operating effectively and meeting financial targets for the past two years. This is particularly welcome in demonstrating the hospital’s ability to operate efficiently in the face of public service funding cuts and the ongoing recession. The hospital achieved a ‘good’ certification mark in quality of services for the local population and against national standards.

The Care Quality Commission’s annual health checks assess NHS Trusts, scrutinizing and scoring them on their performance, practices and management. Organisations can score, ‘excellent’, ‘good’, ‘fair’ or ‘weak’.

In assessing the quality of services provided by the Whittington, the report states that the Whittington fully meets all its existing commitments and the required core standards. The Whittington also scores a ‘good’ in working with national priorities.

Chairman Joe Liddane is delighted with the result: “This is a further series of improvements for the Whittington and a strong result. It recognises the unfaltering staff dedication to improving patient services, our hospital efficiency and the effort that helps make the Whittington the hospital of choice for local people.”
