Midwives keep the trophy cupboard stocked
Midwives Joy Clarke and Shamsa Ahmed won a Highly Commended award at the Nursing Times awards event held at the Hilton Hotel in Park Lane on Wednesday 18 November. This is in recognition of their brilliant work with women who have undergone female genital mutilation. The evening was a glittering event attended by nurses from all over the country and hosted by the Nursing Times. Minister for Nursing, Anne Keen gave an inspiring speech on how nurses and midwives contribute to the well being of patients. She said she is "proud of each and every one of us"...
Joy and Shamsa's presentation was praised by one judge who said that the whole panel was very moved to hear of the horrendous experience that these women go through and how they have benefited from such a service. She hopes that we will be considered again for awards in the future.
