Best dressed ward and department 2009
Monday 21 December saw The Whittington don its Christmas suit as the hospital went into battle mode for the title of ‘best dressed’ ward and department.Every team that entered made a sterling effort and had brightened their work places immensely. A panel of judges made up of the chairman - Joe Liddane, outgoing director of nursing and clinical development – Deborah Wheeler, governor – Penri Morgan and friend of The Whittington, Vivienne Triger visited nine departments and five wards to determine this year’s champions.
Whilst every ward and department contributed something different, from HR’s minimalist Christmas cabinet to Meyrick's ‘let it snow’ blitz, much deliberation and arguing led to the Critical Care Unit, also known as ITU, claiming the title of ‘best dressed ward’ whilst the best dressed department went to Occupational Therapy.
In ITU the graceful laurels and impressive scale of the decorations gave a sense of calm and Christmas comfort in a ward that treats some of our most seriously ill patients. Sister Joy Robb single handedly transformed the ward, including an upside down Christmas tree in the staff room. A note must also go out to the Ifor ward for their ‘Winter Wonderland’ theme that really brightened the large children’s ward.
The best dressed department went to Occupational Therapy. Rachel Wale and her colleagues created a ‘12 days of Christmas’ corridor that was bright, witty and even had a picture of the chief executive incorporated into Santa’s 12 day visit to the Whittington. The finance department also warrants a mention for their recycled Christmas decorations.
It was a great morning, with all staff members getting into the Christmas spirit. We would like to thank everyone for their involvement and are looking forward to next year’s competition already.
