What is Thorens?

• It is Vitamin D supplementation.
• Thorens oral drops are a solution that contains colecalciferol (vitamin D3).
• Vitamin D3 can be found in some foods and is also produced by the body when skin is exposed to sunlight.

Why am I having Thorens?

• Thorens oral drops solution is used to prevent and treat vitamin D3 deficiency in adults, adolescents and children with a risk, or a diagnosis of vitamin D deficiency.
• You may have been prescribed the oral solution because it is the most suitable form of this medicine for you.

What dose will I have?

Treatment for children

• The dose depends on the age of the child. We will use their blood test results to work out the dose they need.

Treatment for adults

• Depending on your blood vitamin D levels you may be prescribed a loading dose and then a maintenance dose or a standard maintenance dose.

Treatment for bariatric patients

• You will be prescribed 2,000 units (0.2 mL) daily. After 2 weeks this can be changed to normal tablets by your GP.

How do I use Thorens?

• This medication should preferably be taken with a large meal to help with the absorption of vitamin D3.
• Alternatively, you can mix the prescribed dose (in mL) with cold or lukewarm food to make it easier to take.
