Improving cancer care for the LGBTQ+ community

Improving cancer care for the LGBTQ+ community
The Whittington Hospital is hosting a small discussion group to explore the unique experiences and challenges faced by LGBTQIA+ individuals affected by cancer. Your insights will help us to shape a conference for LGBTQIA+ people that we plan to hold in January 2025. The conference aims to help improve cancer services and support for your community.

This discussion group is open to LGBTQIA+ individuals affected by cancer. Please bring a friend or partner if you wish. Healthcare professionals who are passionate about LGBTQIA+ healthcare equality are also welcome to attend.

By sharing your experiences and your story, you can help us better understand the specific needs of LGBTQIA+ people affected by cancer and advocate for inclusive and effective care.

We're excited to announce a few new additions to our support service:
  • The Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service, delivered by Barnet Citizens Advice . You can be referred by your nurse specialist or by the Macmillan Service.  Alternatively you can contact them yourself.
  •   COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES for cancer patients at Whittington Health NHS Trust.

We are pleased to announce that we are resuming our massage therapy sessions from January 2024 thanks to a grant given by The Whittington Health Charity. This grant will enable us to resume this service until the end of this year.

Currently we will be offering massage sessions, but we hope to extend that to also offering acupuncture in the not-too-distant future. If you would be interested in receiving a course of complementary therapy treatments, then please either email the team or speak to your Clinical Nurse Specialist or the Macmillan Information and Support Service.

Whilst we wish to maintain this as a free service to our cancer patients, we would be grateful if you would consider making a small donation towards the cost of these treatments, only if you are in a position to do so We appreciate that the financial impact of living with cancer can be challenging and If you feel  are unable to make a donation this will in no way affect your ability to receive complementary therapies.

Any additional money raised will be fed back into the service which will hopefully mean more people can benefit from these treatments over a longer period of time.

  • New Physiotherapy for cancer patients for cancer-related problems. Ask your nurse specialist or doctor to refer you.
  • All of our workshops/courses take place in the Whittington Education Centre unless otherwise stated. Room numbers can change so always please check with the reception staff.
