Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS)

The Camden Language and Communication Service (CLCS) is an integrated team of Speech and Language Therapists and Specialist Teachers. The team sits within the Primary Learning Support Service, a borough wide resource which provides support and advice to schools in Camden. CLCS works together with schools and families to support children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in primary mainstream schools in Camden.

The Camden Complex Needs

The Camden Complex Needs Speech and Language Therapy Team provides support to children and young people with complex needs aged 2-19 years attending specialist provisions in Camden. We work together with families and our education, health and social care colleagues to develop communication skills and support eating and drinking (dysphagia) needs.
 
We work across 4 main sites currently: Swiss Cottage School, Netley (Woodlands) School, Kentish Town Primary (Resource Bases for children with Autism, Unit for children with Physical Disabilities) and Primrose Hill (The Grove).

Secondary school and other services for Young People

The Camden Speech and Language Therapy Service for Young People (CSYP) is a team of Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) who support young people aged 11 to 19 with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in Camden mainstream secondary schools and specialist youth settings. Specialist settings include - college, Pupil Referral Units (PRU), Camden’s Youth Justice Service (YJS) and the Royal Free Hospital School.
 
CSYP provide assessments, advice, clinical reports (including professional advice for Education, Health and Care Plans/EHCPs) and intervention for young people. As well as working with families and staff to support the SLCN of young people.
 
Where settings have contracts with CSYP for additional SLT time, further support can be provided, such as running language and communication groups, 1:1 sessions, work with students and teachers in class and delivery of whole school training as required.
 
CSYP deliver the Listen-EAR (Enjoy, Achieve, Respect/Relate) whole school approach, to build capacity for schools and other youth settings to support development of effective communication skills of ALL children and young people, including those with SLCN.
