I joined the Whittington Hospital as a consultant respiratory and general medicine physician in 1997.

My undergraduate training was at Cambridge University in Natural Sciences and Medical Sciences and my clinical undergraduate training was at the Royal London Hospital. My post-graduate training as a junior doctor was in a variety of hospitals in and around London, including working at the Whittington Hospital as a medical registrar.

My specialist respiratory clinical training was at the London Chest Hospital, and included work on non-invasive ventilation and oxygen therapy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other chronic respiratory conditions. I have an MD in the cell biology of asthma based on work I did at Kingís College Hospital supervised by Dr John Costello and the late Professor Piper at the Royal College of Surgeons.

Special Interests

We all look after patients with a wide range of respiratory diseases both on the ward and as out-patients including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, pneumothorax, pleural effusions, lung cancer and tuberculosis.

I am the Consultant Lead for
∑ COPD (link), which is the commonest reason for acute medical admission to the Whittington Hospital.
∑ The Non-Invasive Ventilation service provided on the ward by the Physiotherapy Department
∑ The Sleep Service and Respiratory Function Laboratory Service.

We lead the Respiratory Early Discharge Service (REDS) and Chronic Respiratory Support Service (CRS) that provides support for patients with severe respiratory disease, who have repeated and prolonged admissions, when they go home enabling them to spend less time in hospital. (link)
