The Library offers the following online training courses to staff of Whittington Health Trust; North London Foundation Trust; plus West and North London ICB staff in our area, including GP staff and primary care staff. New - What the library can do for me - an introduction to library services

In this introductory session find out how the Library can help you deliver evidence-based services and how it can support your learning and development at work.
 
The session covers using the Library space, joining and getting an Athens account, book and journal requests, the Library web site, KnowledgeShare (for regular subject alerts) and the NHS Knowledge & Library Hub.

Finding the Evidence

Learn how to devise and execute a good search strategy using both keyword and subject heading searches, search the NHS Library and Knowledge Hub as well as primary research databases effectively by combining searches using AND/OR operators, refine your results using limits; export, email, save your results.

Get the best from UpToDate/BMJ Best Practice

Clinical decision making tools are very popular! Whittington Health has access to both Uptodate and BMJ Best Practice. If you would like to attend a short (30 minute), practical session, designed to introduce you to the most important functions of these tools, then join us on one of these dates. Quick-fire Critical Appraisal of QUANTITATIVE research

Introduce the main concepts involved in critical appraisal of quantitative research, discuss features of research papers using selected questions from the appropriate CASP checklist.
The session covers basic statistical concepts necessary for understanding results.

In these 2-hour interactive sessions, attendees will use a CASP checklist to appraise a paper that they've read beforehand, with a librarian facilitating the discussion and introducing key concepts as they go. These sessions can be held in-person or online, at a time and place of your group's convenience. Contact the library to arrange a session.

Quick-fire Critical Appraisal of QUALITATIVE research

Learn how to understand key elements in the successful and accurate appraisal of a paper, discuss the features of qualitative research and the key terminology associated with it, and understand how to use a CASP checklist to critically appraise a qualitative research article.

Health Literacy - Communicating with patients and getting your message across

Learn about Health Literacy and the people who are impacted by having low health literacy. In this hour-long session you will have your awareness raised and learn about how you, as a clinician, can help your patients, raise their health literacy comprehension and improve the future of their long-term health.

Reference Management software – Refworks

NHS staff can apply for Refworks, which is web-based Reference Management software. Click here for instructional videos on RefWorks. If you would find RefWorks useful, please contact the Library at whl@nhs.net – we need to make a case for access for every application to NHS England, so you will need to tell us why you need it.

Noclor Programme Training

Working with Noclor, we are proud to offer the following training sessions to nursing and allied health professionals from Whittington Health, WNL ICB and primary care/GP services in our area, NLFT, and all trusts partnered with Noclor! The sessions are delivered on MS Teams.
