Online training sessions available from e-Learning for Healthcare (efh):

How to Search the Literature Effectively
These modules are designed to help the healthcare workforce (clinical and non-clinical) build confidence to search published literature for articles and evidence relevant to their work, study and research. The modules are short (each taking no more than 20 minutes to complete) and may be ‘dipped into’ for reference, or completed to obtain a certificate.

This programme aims to support NHS colleagues with understanding the different methods and tools to carry out critical appraisal of research, through 8 bite-sized modules.
By the end of the programme, learners will be able to: describe the terms “critical appraisal”, “bias”, “internal validity” and “external validity”; distinguish between different types of study designs and their strengths and limitations; assess the appropriateness of methods used to conduct a randomised controlled trial, systematic review, diagnostic study and qualitative study; interpret commonly reported results found in clinical papers; and identify different types of critical appraisal tools and their strengths and limitations.
Journal Clubs
Noclor Journal Club
Join us in the library or online for our bi-monthly Noclor Journal Club for Nurses and AHPs. In these sessions we'll go over an accessible, interesting paper (or something else...) as a group, discussing its strengths and weaknesses (maybe using a checklists) and what it could mean for your practice. At our first meeting we covered "The role of dog therapy in clinical recovery and improving quality of life: a randomized, controlled trial".
Upcoming meetings:
Thursday 19/6/25, 10am-11am, in-person in Whittington Health Library and online via Teams
As the good weather's here we're covering this blog from The Mental Elf: "Can green space help protect us from self-harm and suicide?"

If you would like to take part in these fun, discursive sessions then please contact the facilitator, Assistant Librarian Catherine Wardle: catherinewardle@nhs.net
Reflective Reading Club
Tailored to nurses approaching revalidation (but open to all), these sessions provide attendees with 3 hours of CPD for their portfolios. Please see our dedicated page for more information.
