Breast reconstruction services

We feel that if anyone needs a mastectomy, then the the possibility of immediate breast reconstruction should be discussed. This can be either done at the time of mastectomy, or at a later date.

When it comes to breast reconstruction, the choices that are right for one woman won't necessarily be right for another. Reconstruction can involve major surgery and should be considered carefully. Some prefer to have the breast reconstructed immediately, while some prefer to have the reconstruction later on.

Sometimes having an immediate reconstruction is not advised because of other existing medical conditions that may increase the risk of problems or complications following surgery, or if radiotherapy is necessary, which could adversely affect the reconstructed breast. Some women find that after six months, they have become used to living with a mastectomy and decide against having an operation to reconstruct a breast.

A variety of breast reconstructive techniques are available that offer very good results. Multiple factors, such as the patient's goals, medical condition, and previous surgery, are considered when choosing between reconstruction using breast implants or flaps of tissue moved from other parts of the body.

Here is the list of some of the main options and your breast surgeon will discuss with you those that suits you most.
  • Implant based reconstruction
  • Autologous tissue reconstruction such as DIEP flap or Autologous LD flap

Other oncoplastic techniques can improve aesthetic results

  • Nipple reconstruction
  • Tattooing techniques
