Help us to help you this Easter – check what service you need if you become unwell over the long bank holiday weekend.  Here’s some information which might help.

Full story

For general health advice…
…you will find a complete guide to conditions, symptoms and treatments, including what to do and when to get help as well as help finding NHS services open over the bank holiday at www.nhs.uk or you can download the new NHS app by clicking here.

If you start to feel ill…
…then don’t wait for your symptoms to get worse – speak to a pharmacist straight away. Your local pharmacy can provide you with advice, support and self-care treatments that can get you back to the Easter egg hunt in no time.  You can find your nearest open pharmacy by clicking here

If you are concerned by your symptoms and think you need medical help…
…call 111. Fully trained advisors are available 24 hours a day. Depending on the situation, the team can connect you with relevant healthcare professionals, as well as arrange face-to-face appointments – and if you are assessed as needing an ambulance, one will be sent directly. If needed, the NHS 111 team can access a nurse, emergency dentist, or even a GP.

If there is a life-threatening emergency…
…come to our Emergency Department.  Examples of a genuine life-threatening emergency are:
• loss of consciousness
• acute confused state and fits that are not stopping
• chest pain
• breathing difficulties
• severe bleeding that cannot be stopped
• severe allergic reactions
• severe burns or scalds
• stroke
• major trauma such as a road traffic accident

If someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk then you should call 999.

If you are planning to party and drink alcohol over the weekend then whilst we want you to have fun, please do drink responsibly. You can help us to help you by ensuring that you eat before or whilst you are drinking, swapping every other drink with water, keeping an eye out for your friends and making sure you have planned your journey home in advance.

We want everyone to have a cracking Easter. By choosing which NHS service to use wisely you can help make sure you have an eggs-ellent long weekend.

Happy Easter from everyone at Whittington Health NHS Trust and thanks to all of our colleagues who will be working over the bank holiday weekend.
