The former Mayor of Islington was born at Whittington Hospital and pledged to support both the Whittington Health Charity and Ronald McDonald House Charities UK throughout her time in office, which came to an end in May 2023.
Charitable donations were raised through a variety of activities, including a choir event, fish and chip supper, raffles and a bucket collection.
Whittington Health Charity, committed to improving healthcare services and patient experiences at Whittington Health NHS Trust, has expressed its deepest gratitude to the Mayor and the local community for the support and dedication. The generous donation will have a transformative impact on the hospital's ability to provide exceptional care to its patients.
Funds will help to advance cutting-edge research at Whittington Health NHS Trust, acquire state-of-the-art hospital technology, and provide vital support to enhance patient wellbeing.
More recently, the charity has launched an appeal to raise funds for a safe, accessible, and stimulating outdoor space for dementia patients. The goal is to transform an unused hospital courtyard into a tranquil garden with plants, music, covered seating, soft flooring, games and exercise equipment.
Some of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients will remain inside with no access to the outdoors for weeks and possibly months on end, so the newly transformed space will allow them to get some fresh air, and socialise with family and friends away from the ward.
Katherine Mobey, Fundraising Manager of Whittington Health Charity said, “we are so grateful to the Islington Mayor for all her hard work in raising so much money during her term. This generous donation will be used to enhance the care we are able to give to patients of Whittington Health NHS Trust. Her support will have such a positive impact”.
Cllr Spall said, “It has been a privilege to work alongside my mayoral charities, Whittington Health Charity and Ronald McDonald Moorfields House, this past year. Both charities make such a difference in the quality of care patients receive, and I am grateful to have supported the incredible work you do. Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising, this money will make a real difference.”
