Congratulations to our Extra Mile award winners for January 2024!
Individual award winner – Clara Saint Jean, Occupational Therapist, Haringey Community Stroke Team
As an Occupational Therapist, Clara has set up and run the upper limb group, led the Stroke Team and contributed to its development. Her nomination describes her as an “amazingly supportive manager and colleague” and “a cornerstone of the stroke team and wider community services.”
“Adversity has been thrown at the team in the shape of staff shortages, funding challenges, increased clinical demand and expectations, and close personal traumas. Clara has remained the constant during this period and has been at the forefront of fighting each and every single battle.
She has taken on more than should be expected of one person, and much more than her job requirements state. She has led service development, team development, recruitment, inductions, clinical improvements, and joy at work to name a few extra miles. I’ve never known her to complain because she will always put her patients and team ahead. Clarita has not only kept the team afloat, she is also leaving the team with a legacy of positive changes and with opportunities to continue growing. Although Clarita will remain in the trust in her new role, and we will see her regularly, her daily presence will be missed. Thank you for ALL you do!
Team winner - Health Care and Support Workers Support Team
The team has given more training development opportunities to clinical Band 2 to 4s and, as a result, internal career progression has increased by almost 50% in 2023.
The majority of clinical Band 2, 3 & 4 staff have protected characteristics (In-house Workforce data 2023). Statistically, these staff may have had fewer opportunities for career progression and development (Workforce Race Equality Standard 2022).
This team have really gone the extra mile, offering pastoral support, individualised career conversations and surveys to continuously gain feedback from these often unsung heroes, to find out how to best tailor training and development opportunities to their needs.
Staff feedback from their most recent survey includes:
“I feel it is a very inclusive trust that has lots of opportunities for personal and professional growth.”
“Whittington Health has created several pathways for both new staff and old staff to develop their skills via education, trainings, advancement in career which will definitely benefit any new employee.”
“HCSW team is really helpful and giving their best and effort to focus on each staff who needs help with any trainings. You will be very comfortable to ask them if there is one thing you cannot understand they are very open to help us and educate us. I’m so proud that I am being part of one of the heroes of Whittington Health.”
“I think the Whittington has amazing help and support to help you grow in your career.”
