Our organisation has been recognised by the VCHA

Full story

We are honoured to be recognised as a Veteran Aware Trust.

This accreditation is from the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA), and acknowledges our pledge to veterans in our community and in our workplace, including our pledge to:
  • Ensure the armed forces community receives equitable treatment, aligned with the NHS’s pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant.
  •  Inform veterans, reservists, and service families about relevant charities or NHS services, such as mental health support or assistance with financial and benefit claims.
  • Provide training for our staff to understand veteran-specific cultures and needs.
  • Support the armed forces community as an employer.

Back in 2019, our organisation also showed our commitment to our employees as reservists and veterans when we signed the Armed Forces Covenant. And in April 2022, we received  the bronze award from the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

If you are being seen for treatment at Whittington Health NHS Trust, we encourage you to let us know if you or your partner have served in the UK armed forces.

This helps us tailor our support to meet your specific care needs. Indicating veteran status in your NHS medical records will ensure you can access specialised health services for veterans, including mental health care, hearing loss treatment, limb amputation support, and wheelchair services.

Veterans are entitled to priority access to NHS care for conditions related to their service, (though important to note that this is always based on clinical need and does not mean bypassing others who need to be seen more urgently).
