The once-dull concrete benches have been transformed with vibrant flower mosaics, designed by Tessa Huskin of the Hackney Mosaic Project.
The project was funded by Whittington Health Charity, with additional contributions from patients and local businesses on Essex Road.
NHS Colleagues at the River Place GP recommended patients they hoped would benefit from joining the mosaic workshops including patients living with mental health and long-term conditions, and people who are vulnerable and isolated.
Our team also invited their own patient participation group (PPG) and those who had expressed interest in creating the Centre's first mosaic mural.
Around 100 people participated in the mosaic workshops, ranging in age from 4 years old to 88, including River Place GP practice patients, medical students, community pharmacists, and even staff from the local cheese shop!
The Mosaic was designed to be a collaborative piece of artwork with patient participation and community involvement, including staff from the health centre, District Nurses, CAMHS, and Health Visitors all taking part.
For some patients, the creative experience offered a welcome distraction from grief or loneliness, while for staff, it provided an opportunity to connect outside of their workday.
