A mini gastric bypass is a type of weight loss surgery that involves creating a smaller stomach pouch

Full story

The Whittington Health Bariatric Theatre team, led by Professor Chetan Parmar,  performed its first ever day-case Mini (one anastomosis) gastric bypass.

This is a type of weight loss surgery that involves creating a smaller stomach pouch and rerouting the digestive tract to promote weight loss.

This treatment results in patients feeling fuller after smaller meals. It is considered less complex and typically takes less time to perform than the traditional gastric bypass.

Bariatric surgeries performed as a day-case are becoming widely practiced, especially for the skilled and competent surgeons like Professor Parmar and the bariatric multi-disciplinary team.

Day-case procedures are safe and help to  increase efficiency of NHS service provisions.

They also mean a much better experience for the patient, as it means the patient, when clinically cleared,  will not have to stay a night in hospital, and can go home and continue their recover in the comfort of their own home.

This new pathway of treatment is just another way colleagues at Whittington Health NHS Trust are helping local people in our community live longer, healthier lives.
