Full story
Last week, 37 service users who have received, or are currently receiving, treatment for breast cancer across North Central London attended the Breast Cancer Information and Support Event.
This was a collaborative event organised by NHS colleagues at Whittington Health NHS Trust and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).
The event gave attendees the opportunity to hear from expert clinicians, learn practical and evidence-based advice on living well, and connect with others who have shared similar experiences.
It was supported by North Central London Cancer Alliance, Whittington Health Charity, The Mulberry Centre, Trulife Breastcare, Flat Friends, Look Good Feel Better, Future Dreams and Breast Cancer Now.
Workshops included Look Good Feel Better (a hands-on beauty session designed to help restore confidence), psychosexual therapy sessions focused on rediscovering your sexual self, body image and emotional wellbeing after treatment, and holistic support from Future Dreams. Participants also took part in breakout sessions tailored to their diagnosis and personal journey.
Throughout the day, attendees explored topics such as nutrition, menopause, research, and the patient pathway across UCLH and Whittington Health.
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. Attendees said:
- “Please do more of these events! I am surprised how common breast cancer is. I am not alone.”
- "This was not only interesting and educational, but also a great way to socialise and meet other patients and the staff who work so hard to keep us all safe and well. I believe this should become a biannual event, it would be extremely popular. Also, the gift box was a great addition to a wonderful day!”
- "I’m really pleased I attended the event. I learnt a lot about how to manage my side effects, which I wasn’t able to absorb at the beginning of treatment. It was lovely to meet other women and hear about their journeys. It was important to me not to feel alone - my diagnosis was during COVID restrictions.”
Thank you to everyone involved in organising and supporting this inspiring and educational day.
