Amanda Gibbon has been appointed as the new Chair of Whittington Health NHS Trust by NHS England following a competitive selection process.

Amanda is no stranger to Whittington Health. She has served as a non-executive member of the board, having joined just after Baroness Neuberger in May 2020. She stepped up to serve as vice-chair in May 2022.

She chairs the Biobank Ethical Review Committee for the University College London (UCL) Cancer Institute and is a local magistrate.

Speaking about her appointment, Amanda said
: “I am very honoured to have been selected to chair this much-cherished local institution. I am committed to building on the work of Baroness Neuberger, alongside a fantastic team under Selina Douglas’s leadership, to improve every aspect of the Trust’s work, particularly our leadership in the delivery of Neighbourhood health which the Government has put at the centre of its ambitious ten-year plan for the NHS.”

Selina Douglas, CEO of Whittington Health NHS Trust said
: “I congratulate Amanda on behalf of the whole Whittington Health team. We are lucky to have a chair who has shown such long-standing commitment to Whittington Health and the local community at a time of such exciting change and challenge. I look forward to working alongside her to deliver on our vision to help live longer healthier lives.”

Dame Caroline Clarke, Regional Director for the NHS in London, said:
“Amanda brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of Whittington Health to this role. As London works to transform how care is delivered, including shifting services closer to home and into communities, trusts like Whittington will be at the heart of that change.

“I look forward to working with Amanda as she leads the trust through an exciting new chapter, including the delivery of a brand new maternity and neonatal unit.”

As outgoing chair, Baroness Julia Neuberger said: “I have loved every moment of my time serving as chair of Whittington Health and I have no doubt that it will continue to go from strength to strength after the end of my term. I am thrilled to be handing over to Amanda and wish her every success.”

Amanda will begin her term on 1st October 2026 taking over from Baroness Julia Neuberger who has been chair since April 2020.
