Management of all aspects of type 1 and type 2 diabetes in adults including: Management of diabetes with new agents, Diabetes and complex insulin regimens, Hypertension management in diabetes, Lipid/cholesterol management in diabetes, Diabetes in pregnancy and preconception counselling, Diabetes and foot problems, Diabetes in renal disease, Diabetes in young adults, Diabetes in people with other medical conditions, Pre-diabetes and management of individuals at high risk of developing diabetes, including obese individuals.
Endocrinology:
Management of all aspects of general Endocrinology and Metabolic Medicine in adults including: Thyroid conditions: Hormonal disturbance (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism); thyroid nodular disease and goitre, Adrenal conditions, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and hirsuitism, Pituitary conditions, Parathyroid, calcium and vitamin D disturbances, Osteoporosis and Osteopenia, Menopausal symptoms and Hypogonadism including testosterone replacement therapy.
Biography
Michela trained at Newcastle University Medical School. Following her training in clinical medicine, she spent a productive time in research at The Hammersmith Hospital. Her research was into obesity and the hormonal controls of appetite and feeding. She was awarded a PhD and subsequently supervised a student studying for and later awarded a PhD.
Michela joined The Whittington Hospital in 2002. She is the Lead Consultant Physician in Endocrinology and is responsible for the development and provision of the clinical endocrine services. In her role as Consultant Physician in Diabetes, she is involved in care of patients with diabetes and the provision of diabetes services. She works closely with other members of the hospital diabetes team and also in collaboration with the local GPs and Practice Nurses. She is a member of The Islington Diabetes Strategy Group.
In collaboration with Ms Heulwen Morgan (Consultant Obstetrician), Michela runs the diabetes antenatal service and is responsible for the provision of services for women with established diabetes during pregnancy and with gestational diabetes. Michela is actively involved in the management of inpatients at The Whittington Hospital. She manages patients admitted with acute medical emergencies and provides specialist advice on endocrine emergencies. She teaches Medical Students attached to our firm, teaching on endocrinology, diabetes and general internal medicine.

Qualifications
MBBS PhD FRCP
