Children's Therapy Assistants
Children’s Therapy Assistants help children with both daily activities and communication skills, and support Occupational therapists and Speech and Language therapist with their community offer.
Occupational Therapists
Occupational Therapists help children take part in daily activities (occupations). This can include:
- Self-care activities – getting dressed, eating, drinking, washing hands, toileting, tooth brushing and sleeping
- Nursery and reception-based activities – learning to use a pencil, paintbrush, and scissors
- Play and leisure – messy play, throwing, catching and kicking a ball, and dancing.
Speech and Language Therapists
Speech and Language Therapists help children to develop communication skills. This can include:
- Attention and listening skills – focusing on other people and responding to them
- Social communication – connecting with others through play and everyday moments
- Understanding words
- Talking – saying words or sentences
- Clear speech – pronunciation
- Increasing confidence with talking – stammering or reluctance to talk
