Biography

Dr Raoul Blumberg graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1982, and completed house officer posts at Groote Schuur Hospital.  Training posts in Adult Emergency Medicine, Pathology and Paediatrics at Red Cross Hospital Cape Town followed.
 
He moved to the United Kingdom in 1989, trained in paediatrics and neonatology at London Hospitals including University College and Queen Charlottes Hospital during which time he spent 3 years in a research group at Imperial College, Hammersmith Hospital publishing basic science work in mechanisms of hypoxic ischaemic brain injury.
 
He joined the Paediatric Department at The Whittington Hospital in 2000 and has continued to collaborate in paediatric research.
 
Dr Blumberg also contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate medical student teaching, midwifery skills teaching and Middlesex University Midwives Newborn Examination course.

Special Interests

Neonatology: Congenital Heart Disease; Neurology and Hypoxic Ischaemic Injury.
