Dr Shah is the North central London representative for the Specialist haemoglobinopathy CRG and the treasurer for the UK forum on haemoglobin disorders.

Biography

Dr Shah has a specialist interest in the management of transfusional iron overload and haemoglobinopathies. She is actively involved in clinical research in iron chelation and is a local investigator and national investigator for a number of clinical trials. She also works as a medical adviser to the UK Thalassaemia Society and has contributed to book chapters with reference to chelation for both the UK Thalassaemia and Sickle Cell
guidelines.

Dr Shah teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at University College London and has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals.

She speaks a number of languages, which has enabled her to communicate directly with some of the communities from India and Pakistan, and she has been invited to conduct a number of broadcasts about thalassaemia to ethnic minority groups.

Special Interests

Thalassaemia and sickle syndromes and other rare anaemias.
Research interest in  Iron overload and disease modifying investigational treatments for sickle cell and thalassaemia.
