Newborn Hearing Screening Service

Newborn Hearing Screening Service

Main Address

The NHS provides a Newborn Hearing Screening Programme to all babies. We see those born across North Central London, which includes Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey.

Our teams are at the Whittington Hospital, Royal Free, UCLH, Barnet Hospital, and North Middlesex University Hospital.

Screening is provided seven days a week and is usually carried out in the hospital before mother and baby are discharged. For babies born at home, or for those who weren't tested while in hospital, we will offer an appointment in one of our community clinics within four weeks of birth.

Babies who are identified as requiring further testing are referred to the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital for Barnet, Camden and Islington residents, or to St Ann’s Audiology Service for Haringey and Enfield residents.

Our Children’s Hearing Screening Working Group coordinates all services to support deaf children and their families and includes representatives from health and social care, education, the local voluntary sector and parents of deaf children.
