About us

Why choose us

Local care for our local community
At the Whittington, our skilled and friendly midwifery teams provide care in local community settings within Haringey and Islington, such as GP surgeries and Children’s Centres. For those who choose the Whittington from further afield, we provide all the care in one place on our hospital site to provide easy access to all the services in one place.

We work in partnership with you
We tailor care to make it specific to you and your personalised needs throughout your pregnancy journey. We work collaboratively as a multidisciplinary team of midwives, doctors, as well as with the wider health visiting and local borough services to ensure you receive holistic care throughout your pregnancy, birth and beyond.

We provide choice in place of birth

Maternity care at the Whittington provides three options for birth: home, Birth Centre and Labour Ward. We will support you in finding the right choice for you, ensuring you have all the information to make a personalised choice.
Our birth centre has recently been refurbished to include new birth pools, lighting and music to support you during labour. On our labour ward we have two birthing pools, active birth equipment, relaxing light and sound, access to epidural and a choice of ways to listen to baby depending on your circumstances.

Skilled obstetric care and fetal medicine

Should you need them, we have a large team of obstetric consultants with specialties in fetal medicine, obstetric medicine, perinatal mental health to name just a few. They are highly skilled in intermediate and high-risk pregnancies and who are present on the labour ward seven days a week.

On site neonatal unit
Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is highly regarded and looks after sick and premature babies born from 27 weeks onwards.
