New online portal to go live for all outpatient services
09 Jan 2023
The new service has been tested in two services and will go live across all services from Tuesday 10 January 2023
Full story
Over the past few weeks we have been trialling a new online service which enables patients to receive all of their outpatient and virtual appointment details and letters all in one place, online.
Following the successful trial during which 43% of Haematology and Respiratory patients signed up to use the service it will now be expanded and rolled out to all outpatient appointments in all services from Tuesday 10 January.
Once registered for access to the system, called Zesty, patients can:
- See all of new out-patient appointments in date order giving greater oversight
- View appointment letters and download these
- Set communications preferences to opt-out of paper appointment letters moving forward, should a patient wish to do so
- Add forthcoming appointments to a digital calendar at the click of one button, eg Google or Outlook
- Find quick directions to our hospitals and community sites

Once registered all patients need to access the portal is an internet connection and a suitable electronic device such as a home computer, tablet or smart phone, eg Apple or Android. Everyone will retain the option to continue to receive paper letters from us instead of, or as well as, receiving them electronically.
This new service is just another step towards our ambition to make services as efficient as possible. Since 2019 we have removed over 1 million pieces of paper from our internal processes - we hope that this new service will help us remove many thousands more as we become ever greener as well as more efficient, without compromising on the quality or safety of our care.
Over the coming months we will also be developing the portal to provide more features - including being able to cancel or reschedule appointments. For the time being, patients still need to contact us by telephone to amend or cancel an appointment. However, once registered on the portal they will be able to access appointment letters where they will find the contact number they need - where ever they are in the world.
