Appointments and Classes

Maternity staff in front of computer
You will be offered a series of appointments with a midwife, or sometimes with a doctor who specialises in pregnancy and birth (an obstetrician).

Most of your care will be provided by midwives in community clinics and you may be asked to attend appointments in the hospital if necessary. You will meet with your midwife regularly to check you and your baby are well. Your midwife will also give you useful information to help you have a healthy pregnancy and answer all your questions.

At your first 'booking' appointment we will discuss your pregnancy journey and choices for birth, as well as discuss the options for antenatal care and screening that suits you. Plans for your birth will be added to your maternity record and you can update this as you like throughout your pregnancy.

We also offer antenatal classes free of charge as part of our maternity service. Our classes are currently held online via Microsoft Teams.

Please discuss your options with your Midwife who will then book you into a class. Alternatively, email your team to find out more, see email addresses at bottom of this page.

 Our antenatal classes include:
  • Earlybird classes delivered in partnership with physiotherapists and nutrionists (for first trimester)
