International Medical Graduates
At Whittington Health, our workforce comes from all over the world, allowing the Trust to harness the benefits of a diverse workforce. A core responsibility the Trust has is ensuring that our IMGs are given opportunities to settle in the UK.
The Trust has undertaken work to support international medical and nursing staff recruitment drives. It has developed processes to support staff from overseas that help with the following:
- Professional registration in the UK
- Adaptation of practice training
- A better understanding of the NHS and UK healthcare
- Finding initial accommodation
- Using public transport
- Identifying local groups and amenities that can support our IMGs
For information about the support the Trust offers for International Medical Graduates please see the Whittington Health IMG Starter’s Guide
The NHS has launched an International Medical Graduates (IMG) Programme to ensure all new IMGs feel welcomed, valued, and supported as they transition to UK clinical practice.
The British Medical Association (BMA) have launched a free e-resource for doctors who have newly arrived in the UK, the resource provides guidance and support and can be accessed by going to the BMA website.
The BMA understands the importance of having guidance when settling in the UK, which is why membership will be free to all doctors in their first year living in the UK. You can find out more about the membership offer and the BMA, on the BMA website.
