  • We are based on the fourth floor of the Whittington Hospital. When coming in to the hospital via the main entrance in Magdala Avenue, use the main lifts to take you up to level 4 and follow the signs for Children’s Outpatients.

Our Children’s Outpatient Department at the Whittington Hospital sees approximately 1050 children a month and provides a range of care and treatment for children who do not require hospital admission.

We provide regular general paediatric new and follow up clinics and are currently seeing all children within five weeks of referral.

We provide specialist consultant led clinics with consultants from the Whittington Hospital and with consultants from other specialist hospitals.

Allergy
Consultant: Neeta Patel

This clinic is held once a week and is run by a multi-disciplinary team including a paediatric dietician and an allergy nurse. This allows children with suspected allergies to be assessed, tested and have a dietary review, where needed, during the first appointment. (currently working on a separate allergy page)

Asthma
Consultant: John Moreiras
Asthma Nurse: Collette Datt

This clinic runs fortnightly with the consultant and asthma nurse specialist. Investigations may include lung function tests and allergy testing. Children seen in this clinic are those with complicated asthma.

Behavioural and Neurodevelopmental disorders:
Consultant: Dr Nicole Horwitz

These clinics are weekly and alternate from the Whittington Hospital and the Royal Northern Health Centre.

Diabetes
Consultant: Joseph Raine
Nurse Specialist: Roma Romano-Morgan

This is a multi-disciplinary clinic with a specialist diabetes nurse and a dietician. In addition, quarterly transitional care diabetes clinics are held for teenagers with adult diabetologists to aid their transition to adult care.

Endocrine
Consultant: Joseph Raine

This clinic is held monthly and deals with children with growth disorders, pubertal disorders and thyroid problems.

Endocrine/adolescent endocrine
Consultant: Joseph Raine / Michaela Rossi

This clinic is held monthly and focuses on adolescent endocrine disorders.

Enuresis
Consultant: Mervyn Jaswon

This clinic is held once a month. Bladder scanning and enuresis alarms are given, where appropriate.

Epilepsy
Consultant: Dr Katarina Harris, Consultant Community Paediatrician / Dr Andrew Lloyd Evans, Consultant Neuro-Developmental Paediatrician.

Children with epilepsy are seen in this clinic.

General paediatrics
Consultant: All consultants

This clinic deals with a variety of conditions including uncomplicated asthma, growth concerns, failure to thrive, constipation, headaches and abdominal pain.

Oncology

Nurse specialist: Wendy King

This clinic runs weekly on Thursday mornings and is run by a multidisciplinary team with a clinical nurse specialist and a child psychotherapist.

Rheumatology
Consultant: Dr Heather Mackinnon / Dr Jenny Worrall- Consultant Rheumatologist

This clinic runs monthly and is mainly filled by GP referrals.

Sickle cell
Consultant: Andrew Robins / Bernard Davies

Nurse specialist: Edith Aimiuwu

This is a weekly clinic held every Monday afternoon, for children with a major sickling haemoglobinopathy (HbSS or HbSC). It is multidisciplinary run clinic with paediatric, haematology, clinical psychology and specialist nurse input. Inpatient management is also overseen by the same team.

Thalassaemia
Consultant: Andrew Robins / Farrukh Shah
Nurse specialist: Edith Aimiuwu

This evening clinic is held three monthly for children with beta thalassaemia major and other thalassaemias, with paediatric, haematology and specialist nurse input. National standards have been set and are closely adhered to. Routine transfusion and chelation therapy is overseen by the same team.

Urinary Tract Infections (UTI's)
Consultant: Mervyn Jaswon

This clinic is held once a month. It is a clinic specialising in UTI's and if necessary, investigations renal ultrasounds can be arranged.

Specialist clinics run jointly by Whittington consultants and regional sub-specialist.

Cardiology: Dr Rob Yates - Great Ormond Street Hospital (Quarterly)

Respiratory: Dr Colin Wallis - Great Ormond Street Hospital (Yearly)

Endocrinology: Prof Dattani - Great Ormond Street Hospital (Four monthly)

Nephrology: Dr Lesley Rees - Great Ormond Street Hospital (Yearly)

9am – 5pm
GP’s can refer children to our services. The majority of new referrals are made through the choose and book system.
