Point-of-Care Tools

Designed to be used at the point of care to support clinical decisions, UpTodate and BMJ Best Practice give you access to concise up to date information in an easy to use format.
Available to all Whittington Health staff, they give step by step guidance on diagnosis, prognosis, treatment and prevention and they are updated frequently using robust evidence-based methodology and expert opinion. There are also downloadable patient leaflets, drug calculators, and CPD-tracking features available when you create personal accounts.
Both of these excellent, complementary tools are available on all Whittington desktops - they are in the "core applications" folder.
Both tools can also be accessed from their respective websites at https://www.uptodate.com/contents/search and https://bestpractice.bmj.com/info/ without having to log-in when used from a Whittington Health networked device. You can access them remotely by signing-in with your NHS OpenAthens account too.
For both tools, you can create a personal account when you access them onsite (or remotely via your NHS OpenAthens) and this will let you download them as app to your mobile or tablet via the apple or google play stores.
The Whittington Health Library team will be happy to help you access these tools, and run regular online training sessions on "How to get the best from UpToDate/BMJ Best Practice" as advertised on the Training page.
